Alternative Certification for Teachers
Our Mission:
ACT Houston is dedicated to providing quality preparation for caring, committed individuals whose goal is to enter the teaching profession and attain standard certification as a classroom educator.
Now ACT Houston offers two routes for teacher certification:
INTERNSHIP -- two-semester paid internship as the teacher of record and
CLINICAL TEACHING -- 14 week clinical teaching practicum (no pay) in the classroom of a Cooperating Teacher
Choose your route! Secure a teaching position and complete the two-semester Internship OR allow us to place you with a teacher for a 14-week
Clinical Teaching Practicum. Both routes lead to Standard Certification!

ACT Houston provides an accelerated, research-based preparation program for success in the classroom and fulfillment of state requirements for certification.
ACT Houston offers its preparation program Institutes several times throughout the year and with a choice of daytime or evening schedules. There are no enrollment deadlines, so you can select the Institute that works best for you. In the Institute, you will be actively engaged in face-to-face, interactive, hands-on sessions taught by certified, master teachers who have been selected from local school districts. ACT Houston’s curriculum is a “nuts & bolts” approach developed by educators to provide you with what you most need to know and be able to do as a beginning classroom teacher.
ACT Houston provides on-going support during the first year in the classroom.
ACT Houston knows the challenges of doing anything for the first time. As you enter the classroom for your first year of teaching, you will not be alone. You will enjoy a positive professional relationship with your carefully selected ACT Houston Field Advisor who is an experienced, retired educator, dedicated to helping you reach your goal of becoming a certified teacher.
